a prominent local film-maker who touched many hearts and minds with her distinctly down to earth Malaysian production, passed away on 25 july 2009 after suffering a stroke. she was discussing a future project involving the 1Malaysia concept when  she started feeling unwell before collapsing on 23 July.

she became a name closely linked to the rise to Malaysia's independence film-makers. her first award was for sepet at tha Cretail International Women's Film Festival in France. at the heart of this movie was a sweet relationship between a boy and a girl kept apart because they were of different races.

later that year, the film was picked for the best Asian film award at the Tokyo International Film Festival. since that, Yasmin made another 4 feature films entitled Gubra, mukhsin, muallaf and talentine , all of which have been screend at International festivals .
